More garden

Took a new photo from the street today, since the only one we had was the agents', so five years old. I've recently tidied the flowerbed at the front and planted some hebes, lavender and a cordyline alongside the old rose. The rose is putting on a good show and I trimmed the hedge and cut the grass yesterday, as well as weeding the flowerbed (which had gone mad with weeds) so it looks presentable for once. Job for the weekend is buying bark chippings to reduce the weeds and also hold the moisture in the soil, it gets very warm out there as it gets full sun from noon onwards and our iron-rich bricks hold the heat as well. We've no tap at the front, so it doesn't get watered in dry weather like the back does.

And one more of Moulineux, because its putting on a stunning display at the moment. Definitely have plans to plant another of these.

More garden pictures

Probably not the best light to do it in, but I took some more garden pictures today. It has not been a good summer. Lovely early on, but heavy rain for all of June and July (though thankfully no flooding locally) and a fairly dull and cool August. Everything bolted in June and I've never replaced it, so the beds are a bit bare. but there are some things I am happy with.

This has only been in a year but is coming on nicely. Its lovely when it first comes out, but I am not entirely sure about the peach it fades to.

This is about to burst into a whole new wave of flowers so will get a picture of it hopefully.

This has been good value this year, plenty of flowers.

I've skipped over both Glamis Castle and Iceberg. It clearly has not been the year for my white roses. Glamis Castle in particular continues to give me concern. Its still very small and spindly after two years of nurture. All the rest are thriving on neglect!

I love this one, but its still fairly small, having only been in a year now. Hoping it will do well again next year.

Don't know what the following is, but debating its retention when I redevelop that end of the garden.

And finally, at the end of the garden, a pretty white rose that's current swamped by the forsythia.

Our second biggest project (after the fence and as you can see the clematis survived being detached from the old one and reattached to the new one) of the summer is at the front. We contoured and laid turf so that the lawn now meets the patio. I am very pleased with the result, it feels like we can walk straight out of the house and into the garden. Previously, there was a low concrete block wall, some scrappy heather and a couple of brambles here. The rest of the garden was accessed via a narrow path. Sadly we lost a pretty hardy fuschia, but I think the sacrifice was worth it.

And towards the house.

My favourite bit of the garden, this year, with another view of the new area of lawn
