A mad yellow rose.

This summer, a yellow rose in the overgrown end of our garden has rather spectacularly burst into life (and no, I don't think there is a sewer under it). Previously, it has struggled to send up a single branch high enough to clear the surrounding shrubs and this has had a couple of sad looking blooms.

This year, however, it shot up an 8ft runner and proceeded, during May, to produce about 20 or 30 blooms on it. While we were away, the one below appeared, its predecessor having succumbed to the heavy rain and weight of its own blooms and collapsed back into the shrubbery.

As you can see, the sheer weight of the flowers drags it down, but it still put on a pretty good show.

Its now produced a third spike, with as many on it again.
